Accounting Intern

Intern Position Title: Accounting Intern

Intern Job Description: WorldTeach is a non-profit organization that partners with Ministries of Education and other organizations in developing countries to provide volunteer teachers to meet local educational needs. Located at 2 Garden St. Cambridge, MA (at Harvard Square T stop), we currently serve multiple countries within Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Pacific; we have over 7,500 alumni and send about 300 volunteer teachers abroad each year. The Accounting Intern works with the Finance Director on financial record keeping. We are seeking qualified, responsible and enthusiastic candidates looking to gain experience in the financial aspect of a small non-profit organization. We maintain an active learning environment, and we aim to continuously challenge you as you demonstrate mastery of each area.  Duties may fluctuate according to need.

Responsibilities include a variety of the following:

  • Work with the Finance Director on financial record keeping
  • Assist with payment transaction processing and entry in accounts receivables accurately
  • Reconciling bills exactly against receipts, and entering these into payables
  • Assist with routine bank reconciliations and other record keeping as needed
  • Monitor and communicate with Field Staff for timely and accurate report submissions
  • Assist team to examine monthly finance reports from our foreign operations for accuracy
  • Assist in audit preparation or associated tasks as needed
  • Assist with daily office administration or special projects as needed
  • Collaborate with other Finance Interns on specific tasks as directed

The position is for the Summer term.  It is for 2 days a week. Depending on performance, internship may be extendable to the Fall Term with increasing task complexity and responsibilities.

Requested Intern Qualifications:  Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, attention to detail, responsible attitude, problem solving and critical thinking, ability to clearly communicate complicated issues, ability to follow processes, basic knowledge of accounting.

Preferences: Degree or focus on accounting in school, curiosity and problem solving oriented attitude and skills, knowledge of QuickBooks. Master’s students in Accounting, experienced Undergraduates in Accounting.

Programs Intern

Name of Supervisor: Liz Blanco

Department: Office of Programs

Intern Job Description: In the Office of Programs, the Program Assistant will work with Program Directors to prepare volunteers for departure, including editing program literature and program reports with InDesign, communicating with confirmed volunteers via mail and email, processing required forms and payments, and coordinating travel forms and visa documents. The primary goal is to ensure proper preparation and support of all volunteers before they embark on their WorldTeach experience and often includes time sensitive tasks.

The Program Assistant will also assist with the Programs Department with program development projects.

Related responsibilities include creating country-specific annual reports for the Departments of Education, analyzing program evaluation, working with volunteer files in our database and contributing to program development. These duties will fluctuate throughout the internship as the varying program’s departure dates near.  

Specific Intern Duties:

  • Proofread and format program literature
  • Assist in the monitoring and organization of pre-departure materials/process
  • Manage volunteer engagement groups during pre-departure process and time of service
  • Research for new programming opportunities and new program implementation
  • Contribute to ongoing intern projects

Requested Intern Qualifications:

  • Strong grammar and writing skills
  • Attention to detail required
  • Experience in Adobe Suite programs (especially  InDesign) encouraged to apply

Customer Success Intern

Customer Service and Promotion

  • Manage all customer-facing email accounts and social media platforms, responding promptly to all inquiries and emails.
  • Execute day-to-day social media initiatives.
  • Maintain a social media calendar for our blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn,  and Instagram accounts.
  • Help develop social media strategy to engage current followers and attract new ones in order to foster brand loyalty, engagement, and inspiration that leads to new applications.
  • Contribute to promotional video creation and distribution.
  • Help promote events such as webinars, on campus fairs, WorldTeach alumni happenings.
  • Help develop creative email campaigns using dynamic content.
  • Update and monitor online listings and general online WorldTeach presence.
  • Identify professors, departments, student groups, etc. to reach out to at each college campus.
  • Create outreach and meetings with potential institutional or corporate partners for WorldTeach.
  • Conduct phone calls and follow ups with various donors to WorldTeach.
  • Consolidate and categorize all WorldTeach photos and videos to allow easy access to all content.
  • Create surveys and questionnaires.
  • Identify new market, advertising, marketing and publicity opportunities.
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with team in ideation, organization & creation of content.
  • Help execute volunteer/alumni contests to gather video and photo content.
  • Help in communication and creation of WorldTeach alumni initiatives.

Administrative

  • Update alumni information in database
  • Input new recruitment leads into database.
  • Assist Director of Admissions with creative email campaigns, administrative needs, and overall organization of incoming applications.
  • Assist with daily office administration, including but not limited to, sending out daily mail.

Analytics

  • Conduct research on alumni job information, location and donor status
  • Gather large data, consolidate and compile from Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Google AdWords, Google Analytics)
  • Manage and maintain analytics systems to track social media engagement and results, and create monthly social media reports
  • Conduct research on target schools and department stakeholders relative to current recruitment cycle

Evaluations Intern

WorldTeach seeks interns to examine, design/develop and plan a framework to measure volunteer impact .

The intern will work as part of our staff to support the development of Impact Reports by conducting original data analyses, synthesizing and applying relevant extant research, as well as, developing and implementing data visualizations aligned with WorldTeach’s core teaching and learning mission. Intern(s) will convene with our staff to share expertise, provide feedback on our efforts, and design a framework for each country program. As appropriate, insights gained through this research will be disseminated through a mix of internal reports, in-person presentations, posters, and other channels to maximize impact on practice.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide analytic and program evaluation support to WorldTeach staff.
  • Perform analytical and programming tasks with limited direction.
  • Identify methodological challenges related to the work and help resolve or elevate these within our programs.
  • Help assemble, clean, and manage data sets derived from multiple sources.
  • Support data visualization, statistical analysis, and program evaluation.
  • Present key findings to internal and external audiences (eg, Board of Directors).

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants must have an interest in educational research. Candidates should have training in and experience using quantitative methods, including some combination of methods of non-experimental, assessment, and surveys. Applicant must possess strong writing, presentation, interpersonal, and technical skills, and be willing to work as part of a collaborative, diverse staff.
