Welcome to Namibia!

In June 2009, WorldTeach will begin to offer a semester program in Namibia, in addition to our year and summer-long programs.  During the semester, volunteers will either work as English, mathematics, science, and computer studies Subject Teachers in a wide range of schools, including primary schools, secondary schools, and adult training facilities or as Information Communication Technology(ICT) trainers, where volunteers will lead computer literacy trainings for teachers at primary and secondary schools to develop their basic computers skills as required by the Ministry. In addition to their subject teaching or ICT training, interested volunteers are also encouraged to serve as HIV/AIDS Resource Teachers

Some volunteers interested in working in administrative or project management positions can be placed with the Rössing Foundation on its Arandis Mathematics Project or Plato Computer Mathematics Project, or with the Ministry of Education on its Tech/Na! National Computer Deployment Project.  For further details, please read about our Special Placements.

The program departs in early June with the summer program and lasts until early December.  Volunteers are in-country for approximately 6 months.  Many teaching placements are in relatively remote areas.

"My experience in Namibia has been one that I will never forget.  Nothing is ever routine.  The only constant is that every day offers new surprises and challenges. As long as you have an open mind and an open heart, everything else falls into place."

Molly Moran, Namibia Year volunteer

Program requirements include being a native English speaker with a Bachelor's degree (in any subject), flexibility, and a desire to teach in Namibia.
