The Marshall Islands, located in eastern Micronesia, have hosted WorldTeach volunteers since 2002. Volunteers live and teach in Majuro, the capital city; on Ebeye-Gugeegue, the other population center, which is an urban "bedroom community" for the nearby American military base of Kwajalein; and on the Outer Islands, which range from traditional islands without running water, electricity or much commerce, to islands with basic utilities. The Outer Island volunteer experience stands out for its remoteness and cultural immersion. On the Outer Islands most volunteers teach at elementary schools. On Ebeye-Gugeegue, volunteers teach at the new high school, and in Majuro, most teach at high schools
