Welcome to Chile!

WorldTeach's primary partnership in Chile is with the Chilean Ministry of Education where volunteers teach English at either public and semi-public schools through the Ministry's English Open Doors program, otherwise known as Inglés Abre PuertasThe WorldTeach Inglés Abre Puertas is a variation on the typical WorldTeach program model, given that the Chilean Ministry of Education is highly involved in the overall administration and management of this program.

"Orientation with WorldTeach made me profoundly satisfied with my decision not to go straight through the Ministry. I plan to do all that I can to live up to WorldTeach's hopes so I can show Chile how good the WorldTeach program is." -Katie Eldridge, 2010 Chile volunteer

Chile Ministry program partnership with WorldTeach will provide pre-departure and supplemental in-country support for volunteers; however, upon arrival in Chile, the Ministry, and not WorldTeach, is responsible for the overall management, training, support, and administration of the Inglés Abre Puertas volunteer program.  Volunteers will report directly to the National and Regional Ministry, National Volunteer Center, and Inglés Abre Puertas officials and staff.

The Chile Ministry program offers both Yearlong and Semester opportunities for volunteering.  The Chile Ministry Yearlong program departs in mid-March while the Chile Ministry Semester program departs in mid-July; both programs finish in early December.  Placements with through this partnership are located in smaller cities and more rural placements of Chile's Central Regions (Region Metropolitana and Region V). Volunteers teach a range of levels from Grade 1 up to Grade 12, and co-teach with Chilean teachers to maximize the impact of volunteer service.  All volunteers live with host families.

Chile Ministry volunteers must be native English speakers and must be at least 18 years old and no older than 55 by the departure date. Volunteers must also have a bachelor's degree. Successful volunteers will be flexible, mature, and have a genuine interest in both teaching and cross-cultural experiences. Teaching qualifications are not required, although prior experience will greatly strengthen your application to this competitive program.
